Winter on Belmont Roofs

Belmont Hill's large colonials and Tudors, and the homes around Waverley and Cushing Square, have steep complex roofs with dormers and chimneys. Snow packs against every one of those obstructions.

Step flashing and chimney flashing are where older Belmont roofs leak, and ice backing up behind them is what finds the weakness. We clear those areas carefully and tell you what we saw up there.

Belmont is about 8 miles from our Burlington office, inside our regular winter service area. Call (781) 901-1203, especially if water is already coming inside.

Gutter & Downspout Ice Clearing

Frozen gutters and blocked downspouts opened up so the next thaw drains away from the fascia instead of backing up under the shingles.

Driveway & Walkway Clearing

Driveways, steps and front walks cleared down to the surface, with the apron cut back open after the town plow goes by.

Salting & De-Icing

Salt and ice melt on driveways, walks and steps to keep them safe between storms and through a freeze-thaw cycle.

Commercial Lots & Sidewalks

Parking lots, aprons and sidewalks on a seasonal contract, cleared ahead of opening so your customers and staff can get in.

Snow & Ice Questions

Is an ice dam an emergency?+

If water is coming through a ceiling, a wall or around a window, yes. The ice is holding melt water on the roof and pushing it up under the shingles. Call us and we'll get the dam steamed out before it does more damage to the drywall and insulation.

Will removing the snow or ice damage my shingles?+

Not the way we do it. We don't chip at ice with hammers or throw salt pucks on the roof. We rake snow carefully and use low-pressure steam on ice dams, which melts the ice off the shingles without tearing them.

Why do I get ice dams every winter?+

Heat escaping into the attic melts the snow on the roof from underneath, and the water refreezes when it reaches the cold eave. Poor attic ventilation, thin insulation and missing ice and water shield are the usual causes. We remove the ice now and tell you honestly what will stop it coming back.

Can you fix the damage too?+

Yes. We are roofers year round, so we repair the shingles, flashing, fascia and gutters that ice and snow damage, and we can document storm damage for an insurance claim.

Snow or Ice on Your Roof in Belmont?

Call before the next thaw. An ice dam is cheaper to remove than the ceiling it ruins.
